Fictional Reality: Our Personal Narratives

”There are no facts only interpretations” - Friedrich Nietzsche

My first thought in this little space is what I like to call fictional reality or rather the personal narrative in which we tell ourselves as we view the world and go about our daily lives. It is my personal belief that our ability to alter our perception of the world is something we should fully take advantage of, to create our own narrative about our life and live it to the fullest. Of course we should be realist at our core to analyze the canvas known as the objective world and then paint it in a way in which you see best fit in accordance to the canvas that you are painting on not painting outside of it boundaries otherwise you’ll be making nothing but a mess that is. “The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.” -Albert Einstein

Our beliefs on how we view the world can ultimately make or break our mood, productivity, and how we live overall. Deciding for yourself that you are going to view the world in a way that can ultimately help you achieve your goals is the best thing you can do. For example let’s say you fuck up a math test you can decide to either

  1. Blame the teacher for not teaching the material correctly or believing that you aren’t smart enough to pass the test

OR

  1. Choose to view it as a sign that you just need to study and you can succeed at passing said test if you actually put in effort aka growth mindset

Funny enough in terms of objectiveness valid arguments can be made for both beliefs, if you had a history of failing tests wouldn’t that support the belief that you can’t pass any? Or if you haven’t studied yet the possibility of you passing could happen if you actually try. That’s where the fiction part of fictional reality comes in. Subjectivity can be used to our advantage if we know how to use it viewing things from a different perspective can benefit us as shown in the math test example if you fuck up the test and choose option 2 you’ll probably put more effort into studying therefore increasing your chances of passing next time.

Or you can choose option 1 and believe that you can’t pass which will probably make you fail the next test. But to the main point on which I wish to utilize this concept for myself is for long term goals and dreams. Dreams are what they are dreams, fiction, but to what extent can said dreams become our reality? To what extent can fictional concepts and ideas be brought onto the real world? The more I read about great people and their accomplishments I wondered how their dreams were brought to fruition, how were they able to unfold their internal designs upon the world? And the conclusion I came to is despite the many factors involved the biggest cornerstone was their beliefs about the world. The ability to believe in a fictional dream and bring it to fruition is the first step towards greatness.

Of course this may seem like common sense but these thoughts have been what’s been poking at my head lately and I thought I would share, I truly believe that the way in which we view the world is the way in which our fates our created. So believe in that dream of yours embrace the inner delusions but also keep a good head on your shoulders be realistic at your core but add a touch a delusion to spice it up, Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star”. The way in which we can bring fiction to reality is by allowing a touch of delusion in our lives. So in which way will you view the world? I know for a fact that I’m going to view it in a way that allows me to achieve my goals and bring my dreams to reality, meditate on these things once in a while life is too short to not live it with purpose and ambition. 😉
